got a new router...which doesnt work with our system (got better speeds from the dying one!)
so now have to try to find another one that will play nice with our ancient electronics. (all the while dealing with a router that only works....when it feels like it).
feeling better, but woke to yet another sore throat!! ARGH!

Routers are evil. One minute it works fine, next you barely get a signal. Linksys are the worse from my exp. Works fine for months, then just dies.

have had ours for years ...but our power is horrible here (nice sunny day, not to hot, not to cold, not windy..and POOF! power out)....we have all our electronics on the ups with battery backup and surge protection, but seems not to be enough....
ah well, seems to be having a good day for the ole hardware....have a new one (hope it plays well with the other old timers) on order....
(our dsl provider is trying to push me to wireless...but I live in a multiple unit dwelling and would much rather not have my neighbors using my dsl!! yes, I know there are measures you can TRY to take to keep that from happening...the BEST one I know..is using WIRED!)

Motorola seems like a pretty solid choice. My parents and my fiancee both use Motorola routers. They do a good job to say the least. Might want to look into those.
Glad you are feeling better cosy.

thanks, still feel like I have enough crude in my sinus' to last for decades...but at least I am not coughing all the time....think I see light at the end of this tunnel!!
we have to get one that works with our outdated equipment (something NOT new)...and then we have ...the firewall----
so instead, we worked on my hubby's new computer today...picking out a graphics card..then he shows me the mobo...it might not even fit in the old computers case (and NOT making a new case or buying one)....so we spent the evening 'discussing' how things fit in the case/placement of parts/etc....tomorrow we lobotomize the old computer so we can do real measurements...sounds like another fun day.
can someone just wake me up on wednesday instead?

Geez, that doesn't sound like fun at all. I looked into buying a custom built PC, but they were all like $2500+... Ya, I didn't pay that much for my car. That is not happening. Would build my own if I knew how... But I don't.
Glad your cough is gone. Sounds like you are on the road to recovery!

guess I wont tell ya' what it cost when we first built it (or either of my computers), but living with a IT guy, buying something 'off the shelf' just isnt an option for a desk top.
still have a wee bit of the cough, but nothing like it was the other day where I couldnt even carry on a conversation without needed to see if I could get my lung out thru my mouth.
Ya I think I am on the other side of this mountain...still a bit to go but, mostly down hill!

I might yet get all the parts and then put it together with some of my friends. Will have to see how that all plays out. Doubt I will get it any time soon though since my laptop works fine. Though I do pay off the fiancees ring in a couple of weeks, so that is another $300 a month.
Down hill is definitely better than uphill.

most definitely it is.
hope to get the new one in the mail tomorrow or the next day..ours has been so flaky, sometimes I have to reboot it just to get back on the internet.
been enjoying not having the a/c running...hope the electric bill is nice and small for a change.
Now I just have to regain all the energy my body used while trying to stave off the virus...just feel like sleeping all the time.
yeah, sleeping sounds like a real nice idea right about now....and then,...and later....

Ya not having to run the a/c has been nice. Been able to just open windows to cool it off in here. Which is wonderful.
Sleeping is wonderful. When I can get it lol

Went from a/c to frost on the pumpkin over two day stretch. Now we can leave windows open round the clock. Loving it.
Also loving the new fiber optics.

even though its nice outside...my a/c was on today (I turned it back on when I was cooking yesterday since the oven will heat up the condo pretty dang well--nice in the winter, not so nice in the summer).
got the new router...just cant figure out why the old one (years out of date) works BETTER than it! (old one has senior moments...no connetions etc...which is why we are replacing it....sometimes it just doesnt ...work). /sad panda.
will call our dsl guy tomorrow and see if there is something (magic wand) we are missing...(though our old router works real nice right now..getting some pretty good download speeds....this will pass)

I unplugged my a/c (window mounted unit) yesterday. Of course I wasn't even really home. Went out to dinner for my fiancee's birthday. Was a lot of fun, but I am looking forward to staying at home after 2 nights out in a row.
I use a DSL router from AT&T as I have no other options outside of AT&T and Mediacom. And I wasn't paying more for crappier internet from Mediacom...

yeah, the original router is from the dsl company...when I spoke to him last week he suggested getting one from someplace other than his company! (he said try ebay--there are cheaper ones out there --the same model as they would send us for a LOT less). The one he suggests is wireless...and I am not going wireless in an apartment building! so I went for a slightly older model that is wired....
so, hubby will get to do the hardware trouble shooting for this one (we are now past my techie level)...
would love to leave the a/c off, but with all the computers here...keeping the place in their comfort mode is important.

Our DSL provided router is stored in our enclosed end-table. The fiber optic installer said my 3 year old Cisco, Linksys E2000 is equal to or better than theirs. Just keeping it in reserve, never know what might happen.
Changed the drapes in the bay windows on the west end of the living room and on the picture window on the south side, Dropped our electric bill by $80 a month versus last year.

I wish I could get fiber optics out here... Or at least something faster than a freaking 6 mbs download (which I rarely actually get) and a 0.5 mps upload... Someday...

6 and .8 is what I am supposed to get...fastest ours has ever been was ~4 and .66
with the norm being 2.4 and .5
fiber what??? heck, they didnt even offer cable dsl for years after everyone else had it around us...(and no, I would NEVER get my dsl thru the cr.py cable company).
some days we are just lucky to have the dsl and cable working.
yeup...really enjoy living here

Ya, I pay for the fastest possible DSL I can get. It is ok but I really love going to my fiancees. So much faster there cause she has broadband.
Fiber optic, probably through verizon. They offer it in some places.

(shivers) would NEVER get my dsl thru the PHONE company not that I would be able to get said fiber since I cant upgrade anything in my unit (would LOVE to get new wiring--would be nice to have my dining room light be able to have all 5 lights lite at one time)....and yeah, probably not available where I live anyways. I think the only company I dislike more than the cable company is the phone companies (unless we start talking about insurance companies!)
Cant believe this month is almost over already. the leaves are falling (the acorns are just about done falling). Temps are BEAUTIFUL!! Dont think I can remember such nice weather in a fall before...usually its rainy and cold or still burning hot....nice change for once.

Ya sadly, I get my DSL through a phone company since I have no other options... Guess that is what I get for living in a rural area.
Supposed to be in the 70's the next few days, which is nice, though I wouldn't mind upper 60's either.
